Family Photos in Paris and London
I created this article as a photo guide for family photos in Paris and London. My name is Fran Boloni and I’m the founder and principal photographer here are The Now Time.
Indeed, given that London and Paris are just 2 and a half hours away by train, many families decide to visit both cities on the same trip. If you are thinking about taking family pictures in any of these two destinations or in both, then please read on. Hope that you’ll find these tips useful.
Paris or London: Visual Differences
Obviously Paris and London are two different cities, culturally, but most importantly for photos: visually. This will impact the final result of your images.
Architectural Style
London is full of Gothic cathedrals, Victorian buildings, but also modern skyscrapers. The parks are bigger and you can find them in higher number than in Paris. We can say that London’s skyline is a mixture of old and new, with a focus on grandeur and imposing buildings.
On the other hand, Paris, is known for the elegant Haussmannian architecture, for its wide boulevards, elegant buildings and fancy details. The Seine river being cleaner than the Thames, overall we can say that Paris’s aesthetic is rather romantic and refined, with a focus on timeless beauty.
Color Palette – Impact on Family Photos in Paris and London
London: Often associated with a more muted color palette, with tones of gray, brown, and black. The city’s historical buildings and industrial past contribute to this color scheme. With one important exception: bright red telephone boots everywhere around the city!
Paris: Known for its vibrant and colorful palette, with shades of gold, cream, and soft pastels. The city’s architecture and the way light reflects off buildings create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Except that the sky is covered most of the time and the pictures look more often grey and gloomy. Just like in London!
So the main difference between the two cities is that Paris looks more romantic, it conveys a sense of sophistication, while London evokes more a sense of history and grandeur.
Planning Your Family Photos in Paris and London
For great family photos in Paris and London, you need a great photographer. Choosing the perfect photographer comes down to style, preference and the way you prefer to communicate with the artist.
Professional Family Photographer Style
Try to figure out the vision for your family photoshoot. Do you have a color palette in mind? Do you prefer classic/timeless photos, an artistic approach or candid pictures.
Family Photographer Portfolio
This is probably the most important moment in your search for the right family photographer in Paris or London. Look at their portfolio and see if it aligns to the vision you have defined at the previous step.
Make sure that they specialize in family photography. Some photographers advertise their professional photography services but they only work with individuals for portraits or couples. We recommend checking out our team of professional family photographers in London and in Paris.
There is one more thing that is important when choosing the right photographer for your family photos in Paris and London. That is location knowledge. If you have a specific location in mind, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Westminster area in London. Make sure that the photographer is familiar with that area and has experience shooting there. Ask for galleries that illustrate that specific spot.
Finally, look at real customer reviews about their services. You can check the reviews for our London family photography services and those in Paris as well, online. Look for two things: client satisfaction and professionalism. First, some clients will be hard to please, yes, but most clients can be made happy when we take beautiful photos for them. The ratings should be very positive. Then, read 2-3 reviews and see the words other customers are using, such as: professionalism, punctuality, making children feel comfortable. These elements should help you decide quickly on the ideal family photographer.
